Honouring the Individual by Preserving the Past

February 2018 Update

Yes, it has been a while since there have been any updates to our wonderful supporters, but a lot has been happening lately.

The Conroe City Council has approved negotiations with the Conroe Community Cemetery Restoration Project to assume the responsibilities of the municipality in regard to the cemetery, and to provide all of the needed work, restoration, and preservation that is needed.  One of the sticking points was the insurance.

Before the city will discuss contract the CCCRP must first have insurance.  Unfortunately, the insurance required is beyond the financial means of the organization at this time, unless we are a 501(c)(3).  Basically, we need regular cemetery liability insurance even though there will be no more internments.

With a generous donation the CCCRP was able to apply for 501(c)(3) status on 19 January 2018.  We expect to hear a response back from the IRS by 19 April 2018.  Once we have that tax-exempt status we will be able to obtain liability insurance at a decreased rate, plus donation will then be tax deductible.

If any one of you wonderful supporters know of an insurance company that can provide liability insurance for the restoration of the cemetery, please let us know.  We prefer to support our local companies, but we need the least expensive since we do not have a large financial base at this time.

On 5-6 February 2018 a couple of our members attended the Texas Disaster Response for Historic Cemeteries workshop in Houston.  This workshop not only covered how to prepare a historic cemetery for major storms or disasters, but also restoration work.  The members were able to have hands on restoration practice in the historic Olivewood Cemetery and they reported the workshop was very informative.

We are now accepting donation through our website, http://cccrp.org/.  All of the work we have done, and plan to do, is provided solely through the help of volunteers and donation from the public.  Any amount donated is deeply appreciated and will provide for future work on the restoration and preservation of this historic cemetery.

Please go to our website and click on the donate button near the top right of the site.  All donation go through PayPal so you know your information is protected.

Our next meeting is on 13 March 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the genealogy department of the Montgomery County Library, Conroe Branch.  We hope to see you there so you can learn more about this project and provide any suggestions or support you can.
